Vigil at Tent City

Thank you every one who made our vigil possible. It was a fantastic event. We were not a big crowd, maybe about a 100 of us, some people came form San Antonio, some from Austin, the media gave us coverage, a couple of front page stories, I think it was very good. I was most grateful to be surrounded by people so passionate about this issue, and the fact that there were so many young, some elderly, children. Our Non-Violent, direct action vigil, was really nice, and I thank everyone of you who help with the planning of this event.

Thank you for sharing the photos and story. I was too worn out from Sat to drive down with everyone else and hated missing it.
I hope many people share the link to your blog. It is a story which needs to be heard all across the nation and world.

Just wanted to say thank you for making people become more aware of what is taking place as history is repeating itself...

Japanese interment camps were not so long ago a travesty and this "tent city," along with other detention centers or internment camps, is nothing less...

People should not be treated so inhumane...never.

Families should be able to stay together and no one should be able to tear them apart.

What about the word "illegal" do you not understand? Seriously, the people getting placed in these "detention" centers are ILLEGAL immigrants.

The last time I did something illegal, I got completely shafted by the local authorities. Why does an illegal immigrant deserve anything different in terms of treatment. Not to mention they are breaking federal laws.

Illegal immigrants need to go home and get in line. There is a LEGAL process by which they can be allowed into our country. I mean, wow, who'd of thought right?

*sigh*

Great photos. I agree that the detention centers are over crowded. The government again bit off more than it can chew and it should address the fact that these detenton centers are understaffed and that the remedy would be to hire more people to expedite the deportation of these undocumented people to their home countries.
