Tent City, Located in Raymondville, TX

Raymondville is about an hour North from the border town of Brownsville, TX. Raymondville is a small town with a population of about 10, 000. The small town houses the $65 million futuristic "Tent City", the largest immigration detention center in the US. Some sources show that approximately two thousand undocumented immigrants are currently being held in the tent city, awaiting deportation, in a windowless tents where they are locked for 23hrs/day

The immigration camp facility was built last summer, to keep up with the increasing detention of undocumented immigrants, it has being described by the Washington Post as a “futuristic tent city...made of Kevlar-like material” without windows and ringed by barbed wire. The facility is located next to a State and Federal Prison, keeping the undocumented immigrants as criminals.

Get over it!! What do you and these people expect a stay at the HILTON. Too much of my tax dollars are spent on supporting these ILLEGALS. These ILLEGALS need to use the system that is in place to become a citizen just like my grandparents did. Enough is enough.

I and others will be soon be uniting to boycot against all of your efforts.

Hey at least they have a roof over their heads. They can't always get a free ride while other legal U.S. citizen have to go with out so our government can provide for them. So stop trying to make our government look bad.

I plan to join that group that is going to boycott your efforts.

Have you ever heard of Tent city in Phoenix, run by Joe Arpaio? People live in tents in 115 degree temperatures. Most of the inmates are there for lack of insurance, dui's or other petty crimes and most aren't even convicted yet. What makes illegal immigrants so special that they deserve better treatment than our own citizens? They flaunt our laws then cry like babies when they get caught. Boo hoo!

lol! instead of defending our liberties, some fools defend the incarceration of even our own citizens! and on top of that, for pettiness

do people understand that even children are locked up in these places? or are we now so callous so that doesnt matter?

I find it interesting that anonymous #4 thinks it's okay for citizens to be treated this way as well as non-citizens. Get a clue!
May I suggest, Elizabeth, that you block anonymous commenters? This %#(&*{ isn't worth reading! I'm glad you started this blog- this info needs to get out there!!!

Good more jobs for my teenage son. What I'm hoping for is that he can do backbreaking work without the proper tools all day long, so that when he gets hurt, I can sue the farm!!!!! Woot, I bet I can close them down!!!

I am so glad this blog is up and running. Since the opening of the facility in Raymondville, I have been plagued by what our government does (or doesn't do rather) to immigrants. Thank you for giving us a place to write about and distribute as widely as possible the problems that exist at Raymondville. I will try to update to the blog as I learn things about RITMO.

Peace,
Jodi Goodwin

I have a blog dedicated to the T Don Hutto facility in Taylor, TX. It's at TDonHutto.blogspot.com
There's so much overlap on these issues- we should try to consolidate our efforts!

I totaly agree with comment #12,13and a few other. Not all immigrants that are in there have Dui's nor they have other petty crimes like comment #4 said. FYI my husband is in texas being held for just not having the famous green card ok, we don't LACK of anything. we have home owner's insurance, we have life, accident and medical insurances, we have a home and a car. we pay taxes like everyone else my husband has a great job wth Anheuser Bush as a truck driver, we ask for no help from the government and we have 4 children (GET IT CLEAR HONEY) and I bet that the mayority of the people in there don't LACK of anything; unlike some white, black, hispanics ect. you most likely LACK of most of the stuff written above, (IF NOT ALL)especially inteligence. To the legal U.S Citizens that speak against immigrants my advise to you is (try not to spit too high, it might just fall on your head).
I also am a 100% US Citizen and I support the immigrants 100%.

I gratefully work in a group home for the developmentally disabled and for years their plight has been hushed,ignored,poo-hooed by polite society as 'good people' turn their backs and whisper as 'one of them' walks by, or you see walking in the back corridors at school. How far have we come? It seems on the surface we have but so far to go for the broom is always near and under the carpet is room always for the truth.
Silence, the betrayal of it is a scream that tolls loud as any church bell to resonate into each and everyone of us and our good conscience. The golden rule is for one and all and it is in the good deeds you and i do for if we don't,who will? Remember Sophie Scholl and the while rose. A white rose never leaves my side and a mustard seed is always within reach....Imagine,speak out and work for change. It is not about hope but faith, courage in the understanding that equality, justice, mercy and compassion are more than words, they are a path for all of us who choose to get up in the morning and decide to do the right thing...

I saw the show last night on Public TV and was appaled at what I saw. Most Americans don't realize what these people are going through, rape, beatings and the such, with no one person monitoring the gurards behavior. The fact that they have no legal teams to help the ones that don't belong there reminds me of GITMO. These people are not terroists, and I don't see any white folks standing in line to pick the vegetables we eat daily. Try doing that every day for the rest of your life. I do however agree that if they are of the criminal mind set they should be sent back. But leave these people who are honest hard working people alone. I understand that our government wants to reach 400 thousand per year and of course there will be collateral damage, this needs to be stopped.
